Finding a Subject

I must select a subject
To verse all about
Not serious, I elect
will rave, jump, shout

Work, motherhood
Life and work ethics
Play, brotherhood
Of Families pathetics

Babies, girlfriends
Boyfriends, courtship
Of ambition my friends
top clubs membership

trips to far places
insects, bugs, mosquitos
fancy hotels, high places
Mexican best burritos

Beautiful people, stars
Rowdy neighbours
powerful, elegant cars
full of wealthy labours

deserted islands
coconuts and sands
sires of highlands
the latest pop bands

of these I will be versed
with some Muse’s help
an ode will be rehearsed
and a sonnet I will yelp

So wait, great readers
for my stanzas galore
Of this art breeders
will sentiments bore

What happened to the prose
That for decades I supported
To poetry gave the up nose
rhyming I never courted

Why this change of heart
This sudden affliction
It’s an addition to my art
an welcome contradiction
